Ballery1:

i have a quick question about network.

Ballery1:

i'm watching a video where the instructor said, if someone assigns you to do something, the very act of carrying out the task is the application running across the network. And the network is the road that you take to complete a task. Can someone please tell me what does he mean by *the act of carrying out the task is the application running across the network*? is it like running an application such as a word doc?

Ferredoxin4:

He's just using an analogy, comparing carrying out a task to an application running on a network. I'll give an example:|dw:1562276959365:dw| This picture shows the SMTP protocol for sending e-mails. When you send an email, you are 'assigning' a task to be carried out. The application would be whatever software you use for e-mails. It will run on the network to reach the next person. Here the network would be the parts between the internet and user, which is the SMTP and mail server. In your example of word doc, it's more difficult to understand. It would only apply if you're going to print something or you're sharing your file to someone else. Otherwise, you're only running an application, or using it. When you're not using it, the application is put to 'sleep'.
