Does muscle really weigh more than fat?

Not exactly. Muscle is denser than fat. Muscle cells are bound tightly due to having a high number of tight junctions along their membranes. Adipose tissue is meant to be elastic as they are storage cells for fat. They expand and can carry high volumes. So in turn, if you have a muscle cell and an adipose cell at ~50µm we can say that the muscle cell is denser and therefore has a greater mass.
