mhchen:

Is an irrational + irrational always equal to an irrational number?

mhchen:

I know \[\sqrt{2} - \sqrt{2} = 0 \] so irrational - irrational = rational. I'm not sure about addition.

katkit25:

i bleve irrational + irrational=rational

mhchen:

\[\sqrt{2} + \sqrt{3} =?\] Well..

katkit25:

2+3=5 .....wait i lost my self

mhchen:

\[\sqrt{2} + \sqrt{3}\] this is irrational. So irrational + irrational could be both rational or irrational.

nub:

\(\sqrt{2} + (-\sqrt{2})\)

katkit25:

yes

mhchen:

Perfect example lol thanks @nub.
