mhchen:

You only have a coin with an unfair chance of getting a heads. Come up with a system where you can get an equal chance of heads or tails using this coin. (Let probability of getting heads = p) (Assume probability of heads < 1)

mhchen:

Hint: Probability of getting heads = p Probability of getting tails = (1-p) and p(1-p) = (1-p)p

imqwerty:

let's say that the probablity of getting heads with this coin is 1, what could you possibly do to get an equal chance to winning

mhchen:

Okay, let's assume this coin still lands on either heads or tails.

imqwerty:

you gave it away with this hint p(1-p) = (1-p)p lol

imqwerty:

the only required condition for this to work if you don't have p(head) =1 or p(tails) =1

imqwerty:

0,1 -> 1 1,0 -> 0

mhchen:

Excellent.

imqwerty:

nice ques tho :)

mhchen:

Essentially you can use what you came up with to follow these steps: 1. Flip Coin once 2. Flip Coin Again 3. If it's (Heads,Heads) or (Tails,Tails), go back to step 1 4. The coin-flip from step 2 will be your outcome.
