mhchen:

Do you know which macromolecule react with iodine, and which ones react with Biuret?

iosangel:

no

JSVSL7:

I did this a while back, so I might be a bit fuzzy on this. So there are 4 main macromolecule indicative tests: Benedict's, Iodine, Stain, and Biurets. Benedict's - If it is orange or bronze, it tests positive for simple carbohydrate (ie monosaccharide) Biuret - If it is purple or black, it is positive for protein Iodine - If it is black or dark blue, it's a polysaccharide Stain - if there is an oily residue, it's a lipid, otherwise it isn't So You can use this as a guide. I'll do the first one, water. Water's iodine is brown, so it has no polysaccharides. And the biuret test shows it's blue, so it isn't a protein either.
