What I did for; "Twas The Night Before Christmas" 'Twas the night before Doomsday, when all through the house All the creatures were stirring, yes even a mouse; The stockings were hung by the chimney askew, In hopes that the devil would be there soon; The children were slung all forgotten in bed, While nightmares of demons surrounded their heads; And mamma in her 'fright, and I in my mess, Had just fallen down for a long sort of rest, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the dark to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew with a spark, Tore open the shutters and threw up my mark. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen ash Gave the darkness of midnight to objects all abash, When, what to my fearful eyes should appear, But the devil, and eight tiny hounds of fear, With a large daring monster, so lively and quick,
