Question 3 (Essay Worth 10 points) (03.08 HC) Belinda is thinking about buying a house for $286,000. The table below shows the projected value of two different houses for three years: Number of years 1 2 3 House 1 (value in dollars) 294,580 303,417.40 312,519.92 House 2 (value in dollars) 295,000 304,000 313,000 Part A: What type of function, linear or exponential, can be used to describe the value of each of the houses after a fixed number of years? Explain your answer. (2 points) Part B: Write one function for each house to describe the value of the house f(x), in dollars, after x years. (4 points) Part C: Belinda wants to purchase a house that would have the greatest value in 25 years. Will there be any significant difference in the value of either house after 25 years? Explain your answer, and show the value of each house after 25 years. (4 points) Part A: The first house is a exponential function. I know this because the increase value changes every time. The second house is a linear function, because it's increase is always the same. Part B: Part C:
So you know house 1 is exponential. Determine the rate and plug it in for b. Then once you've found b, substitute a point to determine the value of a. For linear, determine the slope and either you can plug in a point to point-slope and convert to slope-intercept, or use substitution and find the y-intercept. Part C. Let house 1 be f(x) and house 2 be g(x). Once you've found the equations from part B, do f(25) - g(25). Still it is obvious the exponential will be greater based on end behavior.
@Gdeinward
I did part a. I just need to do part b and c. Pleaseee
No one will help me anymore...people EXPLAIN it but i dont get what the answer would be
Fine I'll give you the values needed for Part B. Then you can do part B and C. Part B house 1 a = 286000 b = 1.03 house 2 m = 9000 b = 286000 Now you can do the rest.
still dont get itttt D:
@Hero can help he's good at explaining
Ok i got part b. Now just C
@Hero @Gdeinward
I only need help on part c nowww
So like I said, plug in 25 into the exponential and linear functions you made. Then find the difference.
Part C: House 1 at 25 is at $598820.5 (rounded to the nearest cent) and House 2 is at $511000. House 1 has a higher value. Is that good?
Yeah
Is it correct?
or r u just tired of helping me because im terrible at this?
I meant that it's correct, sorry.
And no that's not the case
Good job (:
Thanks. I still feel like imma fail tho. I gtg. Cya guys. Thx!! medal goes to justjm
