Can someone give me a quick rundown of what an accounting major will learn?
uhhhhhhhh, accounting?
My prejudiced-impression of it is someone that writes down all the payments and investments of a company (Financial records), and that's it.

Oh wow, they have to learn laws
"BOSS, WE CAN'T DO THIS OR ELSE WE'LL VIOLATE ARTICLE 5 SECTION 2.3 IV (a)"

Okay so after reading that, it looks like it boils down to just 4 things: 1. Prepare presentations for financial stuff 2. Document all financial stuff in excel 3. Recommend which financial thing to do 4. Know finance laws and tax laws
That sound painfully boring to me e.e Could be your thing though Im not really contributing to your question Ok bye
My friend is planning on taking it, so I'm trying to get a gist of what they'll go through. I'm staying in Data Science.
I know @Hero has some experience with accounting.
Smart idea @mhchen
What's accounting like to you Hero?
Something not to major in unless your plan is to become a CPA
Okay well was it difficult?
I tend to stay away from things that require you to know the law in order to be able to do business with others. It's one thing if I make a mistake and it's my fault and only I alone suffer from it. It's another thing if you screw up someone else's statements and then their business suffers as a result. You're perfectly capable of learning it. It'll probably take the same amount of time to be fluent with CPA as you would with just sticking to Data Science. Stick to Data Science is my recommendation unless you have close ties with CPA such as family or close friends who you can trust to ask for advice or support regarding it.
