What's something cool we can do with embedded beacons? I read on mailchimp that they embed an invisible picture in their email so that when someone opens up the email, their browser sends a request to mailchimp for that image, and when they send the request, it registers who opened the email. So it's like a beacon. Also kinda creepy how you can send an email and know exactly when they opened it lol. I think it's ingenious though. Anyone have a creative thought on what else we can use this for?

Gdeinward:

Well obviously, they can be used in secret documents. If by some chance if some one were able to open a doc, you would know when, and if that embedd link could activate your laptop cam you would see who did it.

Ultrilliam:

I use it for marketing whenever we send an email so we get statistics for the email :)

Gdeinward:

wowwwwww. Nice Ultri

mhchen:

I don't think we're able to get their computer's location or laptop info with this. We can only get an internet-request from them.

Gdeinward:

im talking about personal use.

Gdeinward:

If someone were to attempt to snoop on your laptop.

mhchen:

oh LOL

mhchen:

Bro that's genius, I have my homepage set up, add a link that says like "MY BANK PASSWORDS" or "PICTURES OF MY BIG CRUSH" and they'll click on it, *flash*..."You have been reported for snooping on my computer"

Ultrilliam:

Hmmm.. technically you could potentially track IP addresses in order to associate them with the users of the site

Ultrilliam:

(With email client beacons)

Ultrilliam:

We do something similar, but for site traffic instead of for emails
