Ms. Harmony Fred Nitzky I plopped down at a desk, wondering what insanity led me to schedule a class at 8 1 a.m.When the professor announced the topic for our essay, some students 2moaning and others giggled. One mumbled that he didn’t come to college so he could think about his mixed up days of middle school. I had to agree. Writing about our most embarrassing middle school memory was an odd assignment. 3So it didn’t take long for me to narrow down my choice. I knew 4in an instant. We were given time to reflect. Soon the side conversations, sighs, and murmurings were a distant, 5far away hum. I had been transported back to Alexander Middle 6School, I was in the sixth grade. A smile crossed my face as I thought of Ms. Harmony: the perfect chorus teacher. Even her name was a perfect fit. To me she looked and 7 sung like Carrie Underwood. I was twelve years old and 8 in love That is not the embarrassing part, 9therefore, it does help to explain my willingness to take on the leading role in our winter holiday play. Ms. Harmony needed a star. I volunteered. I was Frosty the Snowman wearing a black Elvis Presley wig singing “Blue Christmas.” That is the embarrassing part. Even though I thought I sounded like the King, I looked like the Pillsbury Doughboy. I felt like an idiot. Then Ms. Harmony proclaimed I was a great Frosty Elvis. 10I had her class at the end of the day. I was determined to impress Ms. Harmony. I had practiced the sounds and the moves of Elvis. 11It was a proud night for Mom and Dad. After the play, my older sister Julianne 12saidthat it was a good thing I wasn’t popular, because I would have lost all my cool points in one night. For the rest of the 13year putting up with lots of jokes and pranks from the popular kids. Nevertheless, I have to admit that it was kind of fun-and I don’t regret it. Thinking back, I guess I would say that I would do it all again. 14Now, if Professor Lettierre had asked 15our class about our high school embarrassing moments, would be a different story!
