Tascha is on a medication that increases the pH of the stomach and makes it alkaline. What is the effect of this medication? The medication hampers bile production. Pepsin is unable to break down proteins. Stomach cells secrete more mucus to combat it. Lipase is unable to break down fats. The medication hampers mechanical digestion.

justjm:

I'll start you off C is wrong because it is creating an alkaline environment, and mucus is used to combat acidic environments in the stomach. D. I think Lipase has an optimal pH rate at a more alkaline level (not sure you can just check the pH graph for lipase). So it's wrong E. Mechanical digestion won't be altered. So that leaves you between A and B. Which one do you think? Hint: Look at the enzyme kinetics graph for Pepsin if you're not sure, but Pepsin is very acidic. If you mess with the optimal pH for pepsin, the van der waals interactions will ruin causing protein denaturing.
