Well I'm not sure in what context is the question referring to as normal. Psychologists and the DSM uses that term to identify mental disorders, so if the question is talking about the societal definition of 'normal', then it is of course undefined and varies from culture to culture. But the DSM still recognizes these 3 categorizations of mental status: 1. Normal - follows social norms and is of the frequent behavior 2. Abnormal - Rare behavior, does not follow social norms, not expected behavior. This is where psychologists are involved. 3. Insanity - it is a legal term where the individual has committed a crime though having a mental illness. This can relieve the individual from the punishments and responsibility of the crime in the United States (it's pretty considerate of the US legal system to respect those in mental conditions that end up doing a crime, it's one of the few countries that started that practice).
