iosangel:

Can someone give me a summary of what a plasma membrane is?

iosangel:

Like its structure/ functions ect..

justjm:

Sure -Selectively permeable - it allows some substances to cross the barrier easier than others -Phospholipid bilayer - It provides a hydrophillic barrier from the environment. Hydrophilic molecules cannot easily enter the cell due to the nonpolar lipid tail. However, hydrophobic molecules can enter easily. -There are proteins embedded throughout the membrane that can act as transport channels or also act as receptors to ligands. In one sentence: the Plasma membrane is present in all cells and selectively considers what should go in and out of the cell, based on polarity and other factors.
