LordCrewis:

The tortoise and hare ran a race. The hare's total displacement of both runs together before and after he fell asleep was 13 m east and 4 m north. If the hare took 31 minutes to complete the race, including his nap, what was his average velocity in meters per second?

justjm:

\( V_{avg} = ΔD_{total}/t_{elasped}\) t elasped is just the 31 minutes delta D is not 13 or 4, because this is velocity and we are measuring displacement, not distance. Thus, to find displacement, apply the Pythagorean theorem. \( D = \sqrt{4^2+13^2} \) Once you find that, apply the formula and you should get \( V_{avg}\)
