Okay use a periodic table of elements Look at the number in the top If the number of positive, then it has that amount of valence electrons If the number is negative, then subtract it from 8 Ex. Oxygen has -2 on the top, so subtract 8-2 [It has 6] Or you can look at the group it is in `1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A, 8A` (Only the A's)
