This is part of a book that I am making called Our Last Chance Welcome to the end of the world. The world we knew is gone. Everything that you thought you knew will not help you now. I realized that right when it all started. I know what your thinking. When what started? I am talking about the apocalypse. Sorry, forgot to introduce myself. My name is Carter Peppin the third. I was born in Cairo, Egypt. Not long after I was born, my family moved to Tennessee. I was 2 when my mother died giving birth to my sister, Zoey. Enough on me, as I was saying, the world we knew is gone. If you are reading this, that means you might be our planets only hope for survival once I am gone. I realize that this is a lot to put on your shoulders, but I am not the one who made you pick up the book, right? I hope that this story makes since, since I just turned 18 two months ago. At least, I think I did. It gets really hard to keep track of time. Chapter 1 Bam, bam, bam; “Carter, wake up”. “I’m up”, I said groggily. I sat up and checked my watch. For some reason, I always slept with it on. The time read: 8:45. I cursed. I only had 15 minutes to get ready. I rolled out of bed and stumbled into the shower. When I got out, I stood in front of the mirror to make sure I didn’t look to bad. I am not crazy about how I look, but I don’t want to go to school looking like I just rolled out of bed. I am not really tall since I stopped growing when I hit 5’ 9’’. I have short brown hair, dark green eyes, tan skin, and some muscle. I am not talking about Dwyane Johnson muscle, but I have a little bit. I brush my teeth quickly and rush to the kitchen for a quick piece of toast before I leave. I run into my dad right before I reach my breakfast. “Did you set your alarm?” he asks. “Yeah, but for some reason I slept through it.” I grab a piece of toast and turn to leave. We live in a small one-story house, with 4 bedrooms and a tiny kitchen. I grab my backpack and shout “Bye, dad” before running out the door. My sister, Zoey, is already at our bus stop. You see, since I am only two years older than her, we both go to the same school, Waterville Middle. Thankfully, I will be able to go to high school next year and not have to deal with her. “Did you really sleep past your alarm again”, she asks in an annoying voice. “Yeah, but I am getting a little bit better. At least Dad didn’t have to bust down my door this time”, I reply. TO BE CONTINUED...
