Just wondering, what are ya'll's opinions on this? https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/new-york-lawmakers-look-ban-controversial-gay-panic-defense-n962716 "At trial Dixon didn’t deny he murdered her, but insisted he was provoked: “I just don't wanna be fooled,” he said in a taped confession. “My pride is at stake.” An indictment didn’t come for more than a year. After initially pleading not guilty to first- and second-degree manslaughter and first-degree assault, Dixon eventually accepted a deal and was convicted of first-degree manslaughter. He could have faced a 25-year prison sentence. Instead, he was given just 12." (opinions on rights I mean by this.)

Islan Nettles never met James Dixon before the night he murdered her. It was a warm August evening in 2013 — she and some friends were walking in Harlem when Dixon approached and started flirting with Nettles. They continued to chat until one of Dixon’s buddies told him Nettles was transgender. That revelation, he later testified, sent Dixon into “a blind fury.” He threw Nettles to the ground and brutally beat her. She was rushed to Harlem Hospital with a fractured eye, nose, jaw and skull. By the time she arrived, Nettles, 21, was brain dead. Soon after, she was taken off life support.

i didnt write this i just want to know what people think about the topic

Shadow:

Transgender people ought to be more upfront about their gender identity. Additionally, responding with violence when you find out someone is of a different gender identity than what you presumed isn't right.

Laramie12:

Oh yeah it Good

mylesnewman:

I agree, Shadow.

dude:

So I think this needs context. I live in NYC so these issues are something you see everyday. (There have been some movements for LGBTQ+ rights with a lot of rising attacks against them.) However the move for this by our governor was to prevent a loophole that allowed people to harm with the excuse of a panic. (State’s by the quite you mentioned). A new law was proposed to protect both (so basically a new law to cut the loopholes). Err of course I think there is some information missing (I didn’t take the time to investigate it yet though). From what I know there have been some new movements in support of them and they are much more protected in the major areas of NYC. This doesn’t prevent the attacks though. https://www.ny.gov/programs/legalize-surrogacy-and-ban-gaytrans-panic-defense

mylesnewman:

Nice to see your opinion, dude. I am planning on looking more into it.
