first plot all the points then, according to the vertical line test, see if there are any locations on the graph where a vertical line can be drawn that crosses more than 1 point "passes" the vertical line test (no vertical line crossing multiple points) --> function "fails" the vertical line test (there is at least one vertical line crossing multiple points) --> not a function see which one applies to your situation
