i'm trying to run vmware within a vmware to jailbreak my ipad on windows 10. i have several questions. First, do i need to create a partition for xubuntu/linux to run on windows? if not, can i just run it off the usb drive? Also when running macOS on windows do i need to create a partition for that too? if not give me more info. Also once i'm done jbing my device, how do i revert back to the original winows 10 settings with all my data intact? Also is there a more economic way to setup this so i don't have to go through setting up everything each time i need to jb my device.

So basically you're asking if you can alternate between ubuntu terminal and your normal windows? I'm not fully sure but based on my past experience, ubuntu would only operate when I would plug in the administrator key, otherwise it would keep me at the original windows settings. And with regards to jb'ing your macOS for linux, why do you need to do that if macOS already has terminal pre-installed? Then you do not need ubuntu. And sorry I don't know much about vmware.

Ballery1:

no i think you misunderstood what i mean, i'm trying to run ubuntu to run MacOS so i can jailbreak my ipad. i' not trying to jb macOS.

justjm:

OH okay, I'm not sure about that. But then I think to revert back to original you'll need to reboot everytime if you're dual booting. When I was using terminals though, we also had virtual box installed so that's why i was able to switch without having to reboot.

I'm not fully sure because I did this kind of work a few months ago and forgot by now. Sorry if it did not help. Possible @Ultrilliam is more knowledgeable.

Ballery1:

btw did you make any sort of partition while you were at it ?

Ultrilliam:

If it's a VM then it uses a virtual disk, not a disk on the physical hard drive, therefor you don't need to create a partition

Ballery1:

oh sweet. so what about when installing the macOS ???

Ultrilliam:

That depends, as a VM or on the barebones hardware?

Ballery1:

most probably vm

Ultrilliam:

As a VM, the above is true in all cases

Ballery1:

ok so once i'm doing jailbreaking my device, how do i revert back to the original setting with all my data intact?

Ballery1:

how do i boot into windows 10 once everything is done?

pupxkitty:

idk tbh

Ballery1:

pupxkitty:

Ballery1:
