To answer the query though, attraction is objective to the extent that some people will be attractive to a larger number of people aka "general attractiveness" (facial features and physique largely). In practice, it's mostly subjective which is why I believe anyone can find a partner if they give it enough time and effort.

Rape that doesn't constitute in physical damage doesn't affect looks, or physical attraction. Your friend believes she is ugly likely due to the psychological harm to her psyche. But as does the body heal, so does the mind.

On another point, I don't think rape is much of an appropriate topic for a high school classroom. Perhaps at a collegiate level...where students are more likely to handle it maturely.
