Children dying everyday: i was referring to the war that was going on at the time. The war going on in Vietnam. There were many protesters back in the States. By saying “Children are dying” he is talking about the young soldiers who were recruited in the war at that time

One thing noticeable through history is how ubiquitous murders of influential Black leaders are. It’s also something to note that the government put in so much effort to dismantle the Black Panther party, who’s main efforts were to uplift the Black community, yet did nothing to combat the Ku Klux Klan.

Stevie is left hopeless by this hopeless situation. How will he, how will his people rise and improve their circumstances when the government has killed all their leaders, the ones that worked so hard to steer the community towards the right direction?

It’s also something to note that after the death of a Black leader, such as after MLK’s assassination, riots erupt in the ghettoes, strongly visualising the helplessness of the people.
