Evaluate the expression

Mercury:

starting point: \[\frac{ m + (\frac{ t }{ a }) + h^{2} }{ 11 } \] they tell you that m = 4, a = -6, t = 12, and h = 7, which means that you can replace m with 4, a with -6, t with 12, and h with 7. so from there you get: \[\frac{ 4 + (\frac{ 12 }{ -6 }) + 7^{2} }{ 11 } \]

Mercury:

next is to apply order of operations 1. parentheses/brackets are first. notice how (12/-6) is inside a set of parentheses, so evaluate what 12 / -6 is first. be careful with signs. 2. exponents are next. evaluate what 7^2 is 3. now, in the numerator, you only have addition and subtraction, which take the same priority. therefore, apply addition and subtraction in order from left to right 4. lastly, you only have division left. divide the result from step 3 by 11
