The capacity of an automobile cooling system is 16 quarts. It is half full of a 15% antifreeze solution. The owner is adding 2 gallons of a 90% solution (remember, 1 gallon = 4 quarts). When he is finished, what will the solution's percentage value be?

Hayden07:

Does it have answer choices or No?

Vocaloid:

start by finding the amt. of antifreeze that's already included. 16 quarts --> half full will be 8 quarts ---> 15% antifreeze, so 15% of 8 quarts is already added using similar logic, calculate the amount being added. (2 gallons of a 90% solution). be very careful with units. would suggest converting gallons to quarts so everything is consistent. finally, simply calculate (volume of antifreeze) / (total volume) * 100%
