Huntertheflipper:

Jordan is twice the age of Luke who is 5 years older than Erin if their total ages are 59, how old is Erin?

Huntertheflipper:

11

Hero:

Can you show how you arrived at that answer? @Huntertheflipper

Mercury:

let J, E and L be the ages of Jordan, Erin, and Luke, respectively Jordan is twice the age of Luke ---> J = 2L Luke, who is 5 years older than Erin ---> L = E + 5 if their total ages are 59 ---> L + E + J = 59 we want Erin's age, so we can re-write Luke's age in terms of E. then plug that equation into the first equation to get Jordan's age in terms of E. once you have all three people's ages in terms of E, you can sum and solve for E
