Garywalker2006:

A water sprinkler system can water 1 5 of a yard in 1 10 of a hour. Compute the unit rate by setting up a complex fraction and simplifying.

InsatiableSuffering:

I'm going to go on the assumption that a sprinkler system can water 20% of a yard in 6 minutes. In order to compute a unit rate, we can set a ratio. Simply multiply both fractions by 5, and you find that you can completely water a yard in half an hour. Or if you're finding a rate in terms of hours, you can multiply the fractions by 10 to get a whole number. In this case, you find that you can water 2 yards per hour.
