What are the factors of m2 – 12m + 20? Options: A. m – 14 and m – 6 B. m – 10 and m – 2 C. m – 9 and m – 3 D. m – 5 and m – 4
A nice strategy to practice occasionally in MCQs in math is to evaluate each option and foil. You can start with A, and foil the two, then see if it is equal to m^2 - 12m + 20, and continue on until you hit D. But for now, I'll tell you the conventional method, as you may not always get MCQs in this. Firstly, do you know how to factor a parabola?
No i dont sorry
Then there is no use in attempting such questions if your difficulty is not due to misconception but rather because you do not even know what you're doing. Perhaps you should review your lesson material, or if you have none, then watch a video or 2 on factoring parabolas. Then you can come back here and attempt these questions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsA3e5lGwKo
ok first off im taking a pretest and secondly my school blocks youtube but thanks for help and the link
so dont just assume i cant do it thats rude
With all due respect, I'm not 'assuming' as you yourself had said that you do not know how to factor. I'm afraid I cannot cover a fundamental concept here, but you can view this picture that kind of sums it all up. For now, you could just go through each option and evaluate what you would get when multiplying the two factors. Then see which one equals m^2 - 12m + 20 A. m – 14 and m – 6 (m-14)(m-6) = m^2 -20m + 84 B. m – 10 and m – 2 (m-10)(m-2)= ? C. m – 9 and m – 3 (m-9)(m-3) = ? D. m – 5 and m – 4 (m-5)(m-4) = ? I've done A for you to get you started. A is clearly not an answer because it is not equivalent to m^2 - 12m + 20. If you don't mind, why are you asking for help if this is a pretest?
I appreciate your help and thanks for this, but I already failed the pretest so it doesnt matter anymore. I need help because if i pass my pretest then i dont have to do the warmup, instructions, assignment, then the quiz. I like to pass them so i dont have to do a whole 2 hours worth of work whereas i can get 30-45 minutes of passing a pretest than having to do a bunch of work.
Unfortunately, I do not see your rationale. Although you may skip a lot of work, you are not actually learning that way. These concepts have vast applications and if you have an eroded foundation by choosing to skip your work, then you may find yourself in trouble in the future. Although this is your wish, I suggest you actually take the time to go through the needed material so you do not jeopardize your understanding of the content.
I'm not choosing to skip my work I just like acing my pretests and i do sometimes fail them and for your information i am taking the time to go thru this lesson
@gamesarefun please help me with this guy i only wanted help and now hes being confrontational about me "skipping my work"
I am not being "confrontational," I just commented that I did not see your rationale and explained why. They are not tantamount phrases in any way.
ugh fine but you still didnt help me you just said that if you dont know how to do this then dont do this at all
I never told you 'not to do it at all'. I'm only speaking in your welfare. I suggested you to first learn the concept and then come back and apply them. In fact, I gave you a resource that may help you understand it better. How do you expect to apply a concept if you don't even know what it is?
Anyhow, I suppose I need to get going. If you need help, post a question and either someone or I may help you out.
ok thanks for the help i guess
: )
(:
thanks for the medal
well justjm is right, ur in algebra 1 im assuming. You need to learn this material and skipping it would harm you in the long run. Im in a higher level math and this skill is required. Its better to learn it earlier on
really? my sister says you never need this kind of math in your life unless youre in like engineering my sister is in 10th
well your sister doesn't know
yeah she does she's smarter than me so i believe her over you
no offense
okay, idc. close this post if u understand factoring
so ur in like 7th grade?
hahaha no im in 9th what your in 8th grade
no
use dm if u want to chat
close this post if ur done
ugh fine
its closing 3...2....1....
use dm
what is dm
direct message, how do you not know that
ohh haha i see you sent me smth sorry
Other than just physics and mathematics, these concepts are widely applicable in other areas. For example, to solve equilibrium problems in Inorganic Chemistry, you need to be good at quadratics and factoring. In biology, or ecology more specifically, the Hardy-Weinberg equation is mainly based on factoring. Physics has a truckload of applications, I'm not gonna head there. In population logistics, factoring is used widely. In the finances, math is used a lot, and factoring is involved too. Basically, algebra 1 isn't the last time you're gonna need to do this kind of math, even if you don't want to do engineering.
ugh i literally hate math!!!! its the worst
