RyeBread1:

If one factor of x2 + 2x – 24 is (x+6), what is the other factor? (x+8) (x–8) (x+4) (x−4)

CrazyHotGhost:

No clue XD

RyeBread1:

lol darn it

CrazyHotGhost:

I'm in 9th grade hbu

RyeBread1:

same you wanna dm its easier

CrazyHotGhost:

Cool

RyeBread1:

yep

justjm:

There are several ways to do this. Either you could just factor x^2 +2x -24 or use synthetic division

RyeBread1:

ok what is synthetic division

justjm:

OR you could go through each option and FOIL

justjm:

Oh you probably would not know that as yet, as you are in alg1 I believe

RyeBread1:

uh yeah i think so

RyeBread1:

your right idk what foil is

CrazyHotGhost:

Algebra 1 Enhanced!

RyeBread1:

you take that too?

justjm:

(x+8)(x+6) (x-8)(x+6) (x+4)(x+6) (x-4)(x+6) Foil them out means basically expand the terms

RyeBread1:

oh ok so like the distributive property

justjm:

No not distributive property Do you know how to foil?

RyeBread1:

nope

justjm:

Ok then just factor x^2 +2x -24 Can you do that?

RyeBread1:

uh give me a sec

RyeBread1:

it would be (x+6)x(x-4) right?

justjm:

(x+6)(x-4) u r right thats all u had to do

RyeBread1:

perfect now what do i do

justjm:

That's ur answer lol

RyeBread1:

oh haha thanks
