Dangling Modifiers: Looking south, the surf pounded against the base of the cliff.

Vocaloid:

I couldn't find the full question - is it asking if the sentence has a dangling modifier? or how to correct it?

Ortiza20:

How to correct it.

Vocaloid:

sure notice how "looking south" modifies "the surf" based on how the sentence is written. however, the surf cannot actually look south. so you could re-write the sentence so that a person is looking south. care to give it a try?

Ortiza20:

As I looked south, the surf pounded against the base of the cliff?

Vocaloid:

sure, that's one way to do it

Vocaloid:

could even say "as I was looking south" if you want to preserve the original tense

Ortiza20:

Thank you! I appreciate your help :)
