MiraAngel:

What is the relationship between an individual named Pinus palustris and an individual named Pinus elliottii? (1 point) a They belong to the same species. b They belong to the same genus. c They have one parent in common. d They live in different areas.

justjm:

They both start with 'Pinus', and the standard for nomenclature is to write the genus before the species. What do you think?

MiraAngel:

lol #confused is that your answer. XD

justjm:

I can't give a direct answer but I can lead you to it. These names for the animals use the binomial naming system. First comes the genus, then the species. \(\text{ genus species}\) i.e. for a human, it would be Homo sapiens so the 'homo' is the genus and the 'sapiens' is the species Similarly in your question, it's giving two individuals being classified as Pinus palustris and Pinus elliottii. Now I'm asking you, do they have the same genus or species (A or B?)

MiraAngel:

B?

justjm:

yes

MiraAngel:

ok thank you so much!

justjm:

np
