So The HL theorem states that if the hypo and leg of one triangle are congurent to another triangles hypo and leg then the triangles are similar. So we know that 2y=x and 3y+1=x+4 use substitution and for the second equation replace x with 2y. so 3y+1=2y+4. subtract 2y on bothe sides and 1. so you get y=3. Plug that into the first equation and solve for x
