Like kitt said a dot plot would help but as a general rule of thumb: If the data is skewed then median is the better measure. You can mathematically calculate this by calculating for outliers or using Pearson's coefficient of skewness, and you can qualitatively see if there is a significant difference in the mean, median, and possibly mode. If it is not skewed/normal/Gaussian then mean is the better measure
