payton:

3/5x-6=18-4x-1 combine like terms that are on the same side of the equation. Which terms can be combined? - 18 and -1 - 3/5x and -4x - -6 and -1

darkknight:

Do you know what like terms are?

payton:

yes

darkknight:

Then this should be fairly easy. Then you should know that there are no like terms on the left side of the equation. So ignore that side. For the right side, do you think there are any like terms that can be combined and if so which ones? Ill help you if you don't know

payton:

yeah i dont know

darkknight:

okay so lets revisit the definition of like terms. So Like terms are terms whose variables are the same. So in the right side there is a 18, -4x, and -1. Since 18 and -1 are both terms that are like terms they can be combined. We know that they are like terms because their variables are the same (they are both numbers, have no variables)

payton:

oh i know it know, its 18 and -1

darkknight:

yes you got it. Keep it up and do you have anymore questions?

payton:

ill let you know when i get there

darkknight:

cool :)

payton:

thx

darkknight:

i am the darkknight
