payton:

is 4(x+1)=3x+4 a... one solution no solution infinitely many sloutions

darkknight:

This is a similar problem to the one before. so you first distribute the left side of the eqn then solve for x from there. Ill help if you need it

payton:

i get 4x+4=3x+4

darkknight:

Okay good, so now you can combine like terms. What you want to do is isolate and solve you x. You can start by subtracting 4 and 3x on both sides

darkknight:

This allows you to move x to one side and see what value it equals to.

payton:

i got x+4=4

darkknight:

yep, now subtract 4 from both sides

payton:

i get x=0

darkknight:

so what is the correct answer?

payton:

no solution?

darkknight:

Well since x=0, we do have a solution. Remember no solution is like when 4=3 because that is a false solution. x=0 is a true solution. So the correct solution is "one solution"

payton:

so it would be one solution?

darkknight:

^ yes, you are correct
