@TheSmartOne I'm thinking im supposed to use sin?
You have the opposite side and the adjacent side Are you sure?
So if you remember SOH CAH TOA, you can figure out which trig function to use. Let's identify a few things here. O is opposite. It simply means that the side length farthest from the angle is taken into account, in which in this case is side AB. A is adjacent. It simply refers to the side length that is right next to the angle, but is NOT the hypotenuse of the triangle. Speaking of the hypotenuse, that would be your H. Hypotenuse refers to the longest side of the triangle. If we were to look at sin, our equation would look like \[\sin(35) = 5/H\] where H is the hypotenuse. Now think about this. Is this the side you really want, or are you looking for side BC?
I am looking for a
So tan? @TheSmartOne
tan(35)=5/a ?
Which would be 7.1
Yes Also side BC is the formal way, but 'a' is what the question just called that side lol \[\overline{BC} = a\]
Yes, good job
Got it but for the answer choices, there is 7.1 and 7...im not sure because the answer is originally 7.14 but rounded it to 7.1 so not 7 correct?
Yes, 7.1 would be the closests
Okay
closest* also have you completely understood which side is adjacent and which side would be opposite? Because once you know which sides you have, then you can use soh cah toa to figure out which trig function you need to use
Doesnt it depend on the angle
What he means is in respect to the angle yes. Remember what I said on your earlier post?
I had to sink in a lot if information but yes I understood so far everything you guys told me lol
Thats good. Keep it up!
Thank youu
