Which of the sets of ordered pairs represents a function? A = {(−4, 5), (1, −1), (2, −2), (2, 3)} B = {(2, 2), (3, −2), (9, 3), (9, −3)} Answers: Only A Only B Both A and B Neither A nor B
Do you know what makes up a function?
I think it said it in my lesson
Lets try graphing the points on desmos. This is the first graph https://www.desmos.com/calculator/bgfm8jlkmo
Do you notice anything wrong with this graph?
uhm
While a function may NOT have two y-values assigned to the same x-value, it may have two x-values assigned to the same y-value. As you can see there are 2 y's assigned to the same x
So the first one is not a function
ok
Now lets look at the second one This is the second one https://www.desmos.com/calculator/csw6ysjjjn What do you see wrong with this?
I also have a meeting with my teacher in 30min
Yes okay, you will be fine. Do you understand what I told you?
kinda
And what do you see wrong with the second graph? Hint: it is kind of like the same situation as the first graph
2,2?
Thats not what I mean. As you can see in the in the first graph. The first one was not a function because it had 2 y values assigned to the same x-value. Look at the second graph. Do you notice anything similar?
Still with me?
yea
So why is B not a function?
This is a leap for me because I went from a public school last year, to homeschooling this year. My parents put me in 7th adv math, when im supposed to be in 4th math
Hmm, how old are you?
9
And we might have a problem if you have skipped 3 years of math and don't know how to do this stuff
I did a bit in tutoring, but corona ruined it
Okay, so do you know what a function is?
not really ;(
Okay I am kinda mad, I was typing a paragraph and the whole thing got deleted
oof :(
This is the closest thing I could find to the video they gave me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAoe4xjUZQk (Im homeschooled)
So It is really hard to understand all this stuff if you don't have the core down. It would be hard for us to teach you all this stuff so I would recommend going onto youtube and watching videos on what functions are and things like that. Skipping 3 grades in a single jump is hard and I uderstand that but it might take you a while to get caught up, and that is the only way I see it. You have to persist to do good. Even better, I recommend going onto Khan academy and watching videos so you get caught up. Lastly since you are underage you can't be on this site, sorry. Come back when your 13 :)
And yes, that is a nice video to watch!
ok!
thank you for the help
I have to get to my meeting
Cya
bye
