What is striking a match an example of? providing activation energy to a physical reaction an endothermic reaction providing activation energy to a chemical reaction an endothermic process
So would you say that lighting a match is endothermic or exothermic? This will eliminate two answer choices And is lighting a match a physical change or a chemical change? Do you know what endothermic/exothermic and physical/chemical changes are?
Chemical changes in my book are man-made objects or processes.
And I think endothermic is absorbing energy?
Uhhh that's the textbook definition?
Oh no I just meant to me that's how I summarize it.
Okay phew because I was about to say LOL So like let me explain the difference between them The classic example that's used is wood You can take a tree and cut it up As long as you have the branches, those are all physical changes. No matter what shape you make out of the wood- it still remains wood. If you burn it, then that is a chemical reaction. You've altered the identity of wood to something else, like heat and ashes
And you're right about endothermic absorbing heat. Exothermic releases heat So would that make lighting a match, endothermic or exothermic?
If you're lighting a match that'd be endothermic right? But then again, a lit match absorbs energy?
No no, it's releasing heat and energy when you light it up
So it would have to be exothermic
Yeah that's what I meant. I was thinking a bit too hard on it.
Providing activation to a chemical process.
Bingo!!
