darkknight:

So for the radius of D I got 82/13, which it said was wrong.

darkknight:

My work:

darkknight:

@Hero @justjm @imqwerty @InsatiableSuffering

imqwerty:

can you explain your appraoch?

imqwerty:

two wheels can have different angular velocities but if they're connected with a chain then the chain will have the same velocity everywhere, and you can use this fact to answer your question. \(v = r \omega\)

darkknight:

Yes, ik that v=rw if angular velocity is measured in radians per unit of time. Also If two wheels are fastened rigidly to a common axle, then they have the same angular speed and If two wheels are connected by a belt (or chain), the linear speed of the belt coincides with the linear speed of each whee

darkknight:

So I started by finding the linear velocity of the Wheel A and Wheel B. Ik that the linear velocity of Wheel A= Velocity of Wheel C and Linear Velocity of wheel B = Wheel D. I find the angular velocity of Wheel c (same as wheel D because same axle) and plug into the formula. The linear velocity of Wheel D (same as wheel B is 656pi in/min and I set that equal to angular velocity 312pi/2 times r. And find r to be 82/13 But that is wrong apparently

@TheSmartOne

darkknight:

I can redo my work to make it more clear

darkknight:

oop, i deleted the problem, here it is

imqwerty:

the approach is correct, what did you enter as the answer? Could it be wrong because of a rounding error?

darkknight:

I entered 82/13 as the answer

darkknight:

so is it correct then? cuz then I can just email my teacher

imqwerty:

i guess you need to enter the answer as a decimal number

darkknight:

But is it right though? Because that question is 25% of the assignment lol

imqwerty:

yeah it looks alright to me lol

darkknight:

hmm, okay

darkknight:

Ik that it is not to scale but for some reason the radius for wheel D is bigger than wheel A so that seems sketch

darkknight:

oh, it says to enter in integer or decimal lol. Hope I don't get this wrong.

imqwerty:

what does it say when you click on "[more..]"

darkknight:

Says examples: 3, -4, 5.5172

imqwerty:

so they want the answer rounded up to 4 decimal places

darkknight:

ill ask my teacher. Thank you imqwerty

imqwerty:

np

darkknight:

We were right. Not in a fraction lol
