Bch365:

Which two measures taken by the federal government were attempts to preserve the Union in the face of a bitter quarrel over slavery?

AngeI:

Hello welcome to QuestionCove c: I'll add the answer choices A. Kansas-Nebraska Act and Tariff of 1828 B. Missouri Compromise and Compromise of 1850 C. Monroe Doctrine and Northwest Ordinance D. Gadsden Purchase and Homestead Act

AngeI:

So since we are talking about what they tried to do to preserve the Union we would list attempts that they made to keep the people later known as the Confederates as part of the Union, we would have to choose the Missouri Compromise (which allowed Missouri to be accepted into the Union as a slave state if Maine would be allowed as a free state to keep the balance between slave and non slave states) and Compromise of 1850 (which was 5 bills that were made in an attempt to settle the disputes between slave and nonslave states over the territories that were gained during the Mexican Amercian war)
