kwicenzcik:

Read the following speech excerpt and then select the correct answer to the question below: President George W. Bush’s speech to the troops on the USS Abraham Lincoln The war on terror is not over, yet it is not endless. We do not know the day of final victory, but we have seen the turning of the tide. No act of the terrorists will change our purpose, or weaken our resolve, or alter their fate. Their cause is lost. Free nations will press on to victory. Which topic best relates to the central idea in this part of the speech? A) Winning the war on terror B) Backing out of the fight C) Fighting a lost cause D) Avoiding future conflicts

umm:

Any ideas/guesses?

kwicenzcik:

I was thinking A but I don't think that its right.

kwicenzcik:

I was also thinking C.

umm:

For A: It seems logical enough since they are talking about terror, I would say A may be correct, but let's go over the other answer choices.

umm:

Why C?

umm:

All wars have a reason.

kwicenzcik:

true... I don't exactly remember my reasoning behind C

umm:

That's fine. It could be because in the text it says, Their cause is lost.

kwicenzcik:

yeah, that kind of was why I thought that, but then I read the text again and second-guessed myself.

kwicenzcik:

so I think I'm going to stick with my original answer, A, because it seems like the only logical answer.

umm:

All good. Good luck.

kwicenzcik:

thank you!

umm:

No problem. (:
