precalc

darkknight:

how would I solve this without using a graphing calculator? What I did is that I graphed the height of the rider equation and graphed the designated height and got the answer. But my teacher said that there is a way to do without a graphing calculator. How would I do that?

ramen:

You need B?

ramen:

@darkknight

darkknight:

What?

ramen:

Did you already figure out A?

darkknight:

No, I don't know how to solve any without a graphing calculator

ramen:

ok

darkknight:

Wait, I actually got a

ramen:

you figured it out?

darkknight:

So set 46 equal to the equation. So that means that cos(((pi)t)/30 = 0 which means that we need to find when it is equal to zero. cos of pi/2 + n(pi) = 0 where n is any integer. So the first 2 times will be at pi/2 and 3pi/2 To get the equation to equal to that. Plug in 15 and 45 for t

ramen:

good job!

darkknight:

And so for the second one. We can plug in 66 for h(t) and get that -1/2 = cos(((pi)t)/30 And from our unit circle we know the first time cos (or the x-value) hits -1/2 is at 2pi/3 So we can set 2pi/3 = pi)t/30 So that means that 60pi=3pi)(t which means that t = 20

darkknight:

Oh well, not the first time I made a post and solved it my self ree...

ramen:

lmao
