I will give you the definition to think about it: In mathematics, an extraneous solution is a solution, such as that to an equation, that emerges from the process of solving the problem but is not a valid solution to the problem. In simpler terms, if you plug in a solution to the problem back into the equation, it is an extraneous solution if that number doesn't work. For example, if a solution is 2 and you plug the solution into the equation but you get 2=5, that is extraneous. A non extraneous solution is one that you plug in and works. For example, 2=2
