Maths Problem: Mary and Anne together receive a total of £306 for babysitting.Anne is paid for 14days work and mary is paid for 15days work.Anne's pay for 6 days work is £6 more than Mary gets for 4 days.Work out how much they earn per day

Mercury:

let's let m = Mary's hourly wage, and a = Anne's daily wage Anne gets paid 14*a for 14 days of work; similarly, Mary gets paid 15*m for 15 days of work. together, their wages add up to 306. 14a + 15m = 306 it also states that "Anne's pay for 6 days work is £6 more than Mary gets for 4 days" in other words, 6a = 4m + 6 you have two equations, so you can solve for a and m. unfortunately the numbers aren't very arithmetic-friendly so I wouldn't blame you if you just graphed them and found the intersection. alternatively, you could try solving the second equation for either m or a, and plugging that into the first equation to eliminate one variable.
