write out sin(x) and cos(y) in terms of a, b, and/or c as appropriate. then, you can re-write x as 90 - y, (or y as 90 - x), as all angles in a triangle sum to 180. (x + y + 90 = 180)

once you have sin and cos in terms of the same variable, it should be more clear what the relationship is between them
