1. Do you think all our ancestors got married because they fell madly in love? Did some of them get married because their parents arranged it while others get married simply because they felt it was "time"? Or do they marry because it's what society tells them is right? Describe the power of society in influencing or guiding our personal choices such as marriage.

Hi shadow

Shadow:

What is marriage? It is conjoining of two families, that of the groom (male) and that of the bride (female). Historically this was done for two generally good reasons: (1) effectively raise children in a time where there was a high child mortality rate (kids die a lot -> so have lots of kids) (2) pool resources from both families to better allow for survival/success Marriage is still done for those reasons, although in much dimmed/subtle manners. People marry for love, because he or she may make a good parent, and that they are able to provide for them. Back then life was much more strict, and society demanded things like arranged marriages and it was initiated more on practicality than 'love.'
