In a video game, two golfers tee off at hole 6, which has the coordinates (–32, –27). Golfer A’s ball lands at (–43, –18). Golfer B’s ball lands at (–44, –16). Which golfer hit the longer shot?

Mercury:

a lot of arithmetic is involved, but the concept is simple: apply the distance formula between: 1. hole 6 and golfer A's position: (-32,-37) and (–43, –18) 2. hole 6 and golfer B's position: (-32,-37) and (–44, –16) distance formula: \[d = \sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^{2}+(y_{2}-y_{1})^{2}}\]
