b1az3:

The plastic cylinder has a diameter of 2 cm. There is a rectangular 0.6 cm square prism through the middle of the cylinder, extending from the top to the bottom. The height of the cylinder is 6 cm. Find the volume of the cylinder without the prism. (A = πr2) 16.7 cm 3 19.08 cm 3 18.84 cm 3 16.4 cm 3 v

Mercury:

volume of cylinder without the prism = volume of the cylinder - volume of the prism volume of cylinder: pi * r^2 * h. since you have diameter (2), divide this by 2 to get the radius, r. then plug r and h into the formula. volume of prism: the base of the prism is a square with sides 0.6. therefore, the volume is 0.6^2 * h. plug in h into the formula. once you have the cylinder volume and the prism volume, go back to the first equation and plug them in.
