As for this question, MLA format establishes a system for documenting sources.

In other words, when you go to cite your sources after a school essay of some sort, you use MLA format to cite those sources.
I'll provide an example below.

The order goes:
Author.
Title of source.
Title of container,
Other contributors,
Version,
Number,
Publisher,
Publication date,
Location.
