She held the letters out to him. "Will you take care of these and see that they're enveloped and mailed?"

Maybe when paraphrasing this sentence, you can find a way to remove the quote and just replace it with narraration. In other words, explain what she said first, without using quotes, and then say "as she held the letters out to him".
