A problem states: "There are 7 more girls than boys in a class. There are 23 students in the class in all. How many girls are there in the class?" What are the unknowns in this problem? the number of girls in the class the number of boys in the class the number of boys and the number of girls in the class the number of students in the class

MrMudd183:

what do you think it is?

hallyramos12:

The number of girls in the class

MrMudd183:

i think it's the number of boys. once you find the number of boys, you can solve for the number of girls in the class easier. so with the math i did, i think there are 9 boys and 7|dw:1600188401641:dw| girls the class without the other 7 girls. once you add the extra seven girls, it will total up to be 23 students in the class.

MrMudd183:

that's what i did and the work i did *sorry it's all messed up on the set up*

hallyramos12:

Its okie

hallyramos12:

Nice meeting you i'm Hally hbu?

MrMudd183:

i'm john, but i rather go by Mudd

hallyramos12:

Cool

Mercury:

I will politely disagree with both responses given above. Because both the # of girls and # of boys are not directly stated, both are considered unknowns that you have to solve for.
