gabby53:

describe the difference between global knowledge and personal ideas. why is it important to give credit to others by citing their work?

Vocaloid:

Please do not copy-paste my response. In the context of intellectual property discussions, global knowledge is general information, facts, ideas, etc. that is well-known enough among the public that it should/can not be attributed to any specific person or source. Conversely, personal ideas, as the name suggests, are ideas that can be sourced to an individual person or organization, and thus require attribution when used. as an example, the steps of the water cycle might be considered global knowledge, but a specific illustration or explanation would be a personal idea that requires attribution as per the second part, giving credit to others helps to acknowledge the original creators of new ideas and information so they can be properly recognized for their work. this helps encourage creators to keep sharing new ideas, knowing that their work is protected against intellectual theft.
